REGISTERING for a LIBRARY CARD: Adult patron must furnish picture identification and provide a current address whether applying for self or minor child. A parent or guardian must sign the registration card for students ages 5 to 18. Since this is a contract with a minor, signing the juvenile's card means that the parent or guardian will be held responsible for any library materials and fines checked out on this card. All borrowers are required to fill out an application form with name, address, telephone number, date of birth and optional email address.  Please notify the library in case of change of address or legal name changes. New borrowers are limited to 4 items at any time for the first three (3) months. Library cards are not transferable. Patrons whose card is not on file with the library must have their library card with them to check out materials or to use the computers.

There is a one week waiting period once the card has been reported lost before the card can be replaced with a charge of $1.00 for the first replacement card, $2.00 for the second card, $3.00 for the third, and so on. All fines and materials must be cleared from the old card before a new card can be validated. Once a new card has been issued as a replacement, your old card will be marked VOID. If your old card is found, destroy it or return it to the library. A patron will not be allowed to check material out  on a card which has been voided from the system.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES: Patrons must be 18 years of age or older to borrow videos located in the adult area. Reserves (holds) may be placed on all items by phone or in person. However, all reserved material must be picked up within the time specified or it is returned to the shelf or passed on to the next reserve.

STUDENTS are strongly encouraged to finish reports/projects within the 2 to 4 week loan period, as other family members will not be allowed to transfer books onto their cards. Resources are limited, so in fairness to all students, we ask that materials be returned in a timely manner.

INTER-LIBRARY LOANS: Most material not available at the Delta Public Library can be requested from other libraries, usually at no charge. A special request form must be filled out and turned in at the circulation desk. A fee of $1.50 PER TITLE will be charged to the patron if materials are not picked up within 7 days following notification, to help defer the cost of delivery. Inter-library loan materials carry a 25 cent per day fine.

OVERDUE POLICY: As a friendly reminder, the patron will receive a letter, after a period of one week, reminding them of the overdue. There is no charge for this first notice. If the items are not returned after a period of three weeks, another letter will be sent with a charge of 50 cents to the patron. If no response, a Director's letter will be sent after a period of 5 weeks. Another 50 cents will be charged for this letter. If material is not returned within one week of the Director's letter, it will be considered lost to our collection and the patron will be asked to pay replacement cost plus $1.50 processing fee per item. Patrons will not be allowed to borrow items from the library if they owe $1.00 or more.

LOST/DAMAGED MATERIAL: Any material not returned due to loss or damage will be replaced at the replacement cost, plus a $1.50 processing fee. After the material has been paid for, it may not be returned for a refund. The replacement cost money has already been spent to buy another book. The patron may donate the book back to the library if they wish to do so.

BOOK DROP: An exterior book drop is located on the east side of the building (along the drive between the library and the bank) and is open 24 hours a day for your convenience.

CHILDREN'S SERVICES: Story times are held in 6 week sessions year round. Registration is required. Summer Reading Programs run from June through July. A Read-To-Me Preschool Program is held in September, with special programs for children and families running throughout the year. All programs are advertised in our monthly newsletters and in the local newspaper. Monthly newsletters are available at the circulation desks free of charge. We ask that young children be supervised at all times while in the library.

TEEN  SERVICES: Summer Reading Programs, special collections, and activities are planned throughout the year. Watch the Young Adult bulletin board for upcoming events, or check out our website www.deltaohio.com for a current calendar of events.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY: Patrons are encouraged to join the FRIENDS OF THE DELTA PUBLIC LIBRARY organization; applications are available at the main circulation desk.

RED CARPET SERVICE: Residents of the Delta School District who are unable to use the library because of physical disability, extended illness, or lack of transportation are eligible for our homebound delivery service. Please call the library at 419-822-3110 for further information.

TEACHERS may check out a maximum of 30 books for a 6 week loan period with no renewals. Teachers will be charged for overdue items and/ or for replacement cost of lost or damaged items. Teachers who would like to use cassettes or videos in their classroom for a longer period of time than check-out period must get approval prior to check out. Due to limited staff availability, we are unable to assemble classroom collections for the teacher but will gladly assist teacher in locating materials. We ask that no one teacher deplete a subject area. See TEACHER COLLECTION/LOAN POLICY FORM for more details.

TUTORS are asked to fill out the Tutor Registration Form at the main circulation desk. This is for the benefit and safety of the tutors and all students being tutored in the library.

EQUIPMENT: An overhead projector, and portable screen  may be borrowed from the library. Equipment is loaned for a three day period. There is a $5.00 deposit required on all equipment. These deposits are refundable upon return of the equipment in good working condition.

CHECK RETURN POLICY: The library will accept checks for fines and fee payments; however, if the check is returned for non-sufficient funds, the library will assess a processing fee of $10.00 as well as the bank's overdraft charge plus the amount to be paid in CASH. Payment must be made in full before patron can resume borrowing privileges.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Food and drink may not be brought into the library. Radios and cell phones are NOT to be used in the library. Quiet conversations may be held in the main part of the library. For the safety of all patrons, we ask that bicycles be parked in stand in front of library and that skateboarders refrain from using sidewalks and parking areas around library.
